Meadham Kirchhoff’s second collection for Topshop hit the shops recently.
The designers describe it as “a cacophony of prints and layers, dispelling any social notions of ‘good taste’ or appropriate dressing. We imagine the girl to be fearless, and self expressive.”
The first collection sold out in record time, so you may have to fight to get your hands on these amazing pieces. So I hot-footed it to Topshop on my lunch break and came back with a fabulous faded chiffon dress that makes me feel a little bit like Courtney Love, back when she was still with Kurt was still with us.
Love it.

What I love about this TV advertisement is the fact that what appears to be a nature documentary, is actually a very witty ad that quickly turns into a fight between a man and bear over a salmon.

The bear was in fact a stuntman in a 7ft-tall bear suit from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. This was actually released in November 2000, and was one of the first ads to use the power of the internet through fans downloading and forwarding it.

Directed by Daniel Kleinman, the ad was written by Paul Silburn, then an art director at Leo Burnett, who is now creative partner at Saatchi & Saatchi.

Ever since the tradegy that took place in Japan, my mind has constantly been diverted to the misery and agony of the affected people. It makes you wonder how helpless we are before the forces of nature. Being a responsible human being, I believe it is the responsibility of the whole world to act for the cause of Japan.

I want to create awareness for all the affectees of Japan. Japan is a country, famous for its rich and diverse culture. There are many famous things peculiar to the Japanese oriental culture. The country is famous for its advancement in technology, while things like sushi, sumo wrestling and origami art are hallmark of the Asian nation.

“Origami art” is one of the biggest contributions of the Japanese culture to the world of logo design. Origami is the art of folding paper into different shapes and is creatively employed in designing logos. Here are a few logos that will show japanese culture.

Tim Walker has to be one of my favorite photographers, his imagery speaks stories and fairytales, his romantic and unique style fascinates me, the use of props and contrast is amazing. For example below the butterflies being a larger scale than the model. Its fantasy, he takes us away from reality, taking us to an idyllic, interesting scene.

REVIEWING SEO - Search Engine Optimisation

After todays lecture with Dan Morgan I am starting to come around to the idea of coding my website! Finally, after 2 years!

The use of SEO and how you can enable people to view your website through a series of links! Using this to build up your ranking along the website hierarchy.

One thing Mark has asked me is to think about how I am going to be able to get my website noticed, and Dan has helped me think about how I am going to do so..

It is alll about Keywords, the more keywords are in your website the higher ranking it will receive. You could use different techniques, such as the blakc and white hat trick. With the blackhat, you trick google into “stuffing” keywords in the background, filling it with hundreds of keywords. Then there is Whitehat, it optimises your website to get a higher ranking. You can also include incoming links and content…this helps you to get in touch with other contacts too!

You would need to buy a domain name, a good site to use would be 123REG, in your URL name, you would include keywords, so for myself I would include Lauren Hogan, Graphic Design, Editorial, Based in Liverpool. Also, the homepage is always referred to as the index page!

For your webpage title make sure KEYWORDS are used. ” a visual diary showing the artwork, ideas and reviews of lauren hogan.” The amount of keywords used on my website will increase my visual ranking.

JPG is Joint Photographic Experts.

creating a .jpg you must remember the granny rule.

mygranny.jpg = 8 spaces before.

When downloading online there are three different ways, through Dial - up, this is where the website blocks information and it slowly funnels through the system.. there is also broadband and also T1. On average people spend 3 seconds viewing a website before moving on.

If you have enough keywords you will be placed in the natural results on Google, if you use PPC this is where you pay to be put onto google to display your website. When you put your website live, Google will send spiders out to index. You should submit your website to google and add your URL.

Another way is through DMOZ which is a human generated link, and also Iwebtools, this is a backlink checker this is where you can use someone else’s website to harvest links for yourself. Once you have your website there will be a ranking, and it will be 0. It ranges to 10.

After this mornings session, I have realised maybe with a little bit of time, I should take more efffort to understand web and it really isnt as complicated as I had previously thought so.

Well done Dan!

Okay, so after my tutorial with Rosie on friday (which went exceptionally well) I decided that I wanted to concentrate on something that I want to be able to concentrate on after university.
I am going to be writing about magazine editorial, especially looking at Vogue, after working there last year for an internship it has opened my eyes up to the world of editorial and page layouts. My question will be based around Vogue and the way that it has changed over the years and why it has done so!
Looking forward to this! X

Chelsea Girl, the brand that rose to fame during the Sixties, Seventies and Eighties before morphing into high-street favourite River Island in 1988, relaunches next week. The capsule collection takes its cue from vintage pieces that featured in the original Chelsea Girl campaigns across the decades, such as geometric-print minis, bohemian paisley maxi dresses, retro pyjama trousers and crochet. It launches with a pop-up store at Selfridges; selected stores will be stocking the vintage-inspired collection from the 24 March, cannot wait!

After speaking to friends in London, they had just visited the George and Jørgen gallery on Princes Street in Mayfair - a new art space perched above the Salvation Army charity shop, currently showcasing the intriguing installations of New York sculptor William Corwin.
Part peep show, part museum diorama, the playful exhibition, Alans Wood, is appropriately named after the artist’s first (and only) London landlord - a Yorkshireman who introduced Corwin to his girlfriend and the gallery’s directors, Ingrid Reynolds and George Barker.
If your about in London, it is a must see and only on until April 2nd!!
